Installation Error "We are unable to generate an trial license. The plugin key is invalid. Please contact us if the problem persists."

If you recently tried installing a new Server app to your Confluence system it's likely you encountered the following warning:

We are unable to generate an trial license. The plugin key is invalid. Please contact us if the problem persists.

Evaluating or purchasing licenses for Server apps is no longer possible since February 15th, 2023. This decision was made by Atlassian as another step towards ending support for Confluence Server. To learn more we recommend reading: What Server end of support means

Can K15t Still Generate a Server License for Me?

No, we cannot. Since it's no longer possible to generate Server licenses via Atlassian Marketplace this means we also cannot generate any.

What If I Need a Server License for Migration Purposes?

If you need a Server license for migration purposes, a workaround would be to install a Data Center trial of that app. To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to Atlassian Marketplace.

  2. Search for the relevant app.

  3. Set the hosting dropdown to Data Center.

  4. Click Try it free, and follow the steps from there.

After applying the Data Center license you may see one of the following warnings:

  • "This app has a Data Center license, but the installed version is not Data Center compatible,"

  • or "Wrong App Type."

These warnings can be ignored, the app should still work as expected.
