Reuse Content in a Scroll Document

We know you're eager to reuse content effectively within Scroll Documents while keeping a detailed history of changes. To support this goal, we present two practical approaches below. These methods assume that you've already set up your document and are ready to add reusable pages.

Approach 1: Separate Include Library Space

This setup is ideal if you plan to use the same pages across multiple documents.

If your documents share the same space, consider using version prefixes to prevent any potential conflicts arising from similar page titles.

To set up a dedicated include library space, follow the steps below:

  1. Create a new Confluence space. This space will act as an "Include Library" for your reusable content. Do not enable Scroll Documents in this space.

  2. Add some reusable pages to you Include Library space.

  3. Navigate back to your Scroll Documents managed space.

  4. Select Scroll Documents in the Confluence sidebar.

  5. Click on the document card belonging to your document.

  6. Click More page tree actions (•••) in your Working version > select Organize page tree.

  7. Use the Organize page tree within your document to incorporate the reusable pages into the Working version.

  8. Choose Include page to make sure the content of the Working version stays updated with the source page.

  9. Click Save when you are done.

  10. Click Save a version when you're ready to save a version,

  11. Click Advanced in the New version dialog.

  12. Make sure to select the "Resolve Include Page and Insert excerpt macros" option. This preserves the included content in a static state within the saved version, while still enabling updates to the Working version if the source page changes.

  13. Click Save to save the new version.

Approach 2: Reusable Pages under "_Include Library" Parent Page

This approach is more suitable if your aim is to reuse pages exclusively within one specific document:

  1. Create a new page “_Include” and place it above the root page of your document, so it’s outside of the scope of the document.

  2. Create some reusable pages and place them under the "_Include" page. Use this page as a central location to house content that you intend to reuse across multiple pages within your document.

  3. Select Scroll Documents in the app sidebar.

  4. Click on the document card belonging to your document.

  5. Click More page tree actions (•••) in your Working version > select Organize page tree.

  6. Use the Organize page tree within your document to add the reusable pages into the Working version.

  7. Choose Include page to make sure the content of the Working version gets updated when the source page does.

  8. Click Save when you are done.

  9. Click Save a version when you're ready to save a version,

  10. Click Advanced in the New version dialog.

  11. Make sure to select the "Resolve Include Page and Insert excerpt macros" option. This preserves the included content in a static state within the saved version, while still enabling updates to the Working version if the source page changes.

  12. Click Save to save the new version.

By following either of these approaches, you can make content reuse in Scroll Documents a seamless and organized process. Choose the method that aligns best with your content management strategy and enhances your efficiency.
