Can I Copy over a Translation from the Working Version into a Saved Version?

Do you have a translated Working version? In Scroll Documents, you can only save versions based on the defined author language. Therefore, we recommend to keep the Working version in the authoring language only.

Ideally, you keep a workflow where you:

1. maintain the Working version in the defined authoring language,

2. save a version once ready,

3. reuse and add new translations to the saved version.

If your Working version has already been translated, you’ll find a workaround below to help you achieve the workflow described above.

Keep the following in mind:

• You need the extension app Translations for Scroll Documents installed in order to follow the steps in this article.

• The workaround described below is a one-time action. The steps below will not help you maintain a workflow where you translate your Working version.

How to Import a Translation from the Working Version into a Saved Version

In this workaround, we will assume English is the authoring language, and German is the translation you want to import into your saved version. We will also add Chinese as a temporary third language, which will help us export the German translation.

Before you start, navigate to the Document Manager where you manage the versions and translations of your document:

1. Click Scroll Documents from the Apps section in your space sidebar.

2. From the Document Library, click the document card of a document.

Or

1. From a page in a document, click Document toolbox.

2. Click on the cog icon.

When you are in the Document Manager, follow the steps below:

1. Find More document actions (•••) > select Translations.

2. Click New Language > select Chinese as a new secondary language > click Add.

3. Navigate back to the Document Manager via <– Manage Document

4. Click Add translation in the Working version:

   1. Click XLIFF Translation > select “Export XLIFF for translation” > in the “Source Language” dropdown select “German” > in the “Target Language” dropdown select “Any” > Export.

5. Find the previously saved version where you want to import the German translation.

6. In the saved version click Add translation:

   1. Click XLIFF Translation > select “Import translated XLIFF” > drag and drop the XLIFF export you previously exported into the dialog > in the “Target Language” dropdown select “German” as we are importing the German translation >click Next > Import and Create.
