JIRA is offline

Symptoms

An issue does not get synchronized and appears in the troubleshooting section with the category 'JIRA is offline' and a message like 'The JIRA instance at http://localhost/JIRA is offline.'

Cause

The JIRA server where Backbone runs the synchronization jobs cannot reach the JIRA with the base URL mentioned in the error message.

Resolution

Backbone will periodically check if the JIRA system goes online again. Once the connection is reestablished, all changes made during the downtime will be applied.

To check why the JIRA system seems offline:

  • Check if the JIRA with the mentioned base URL is offline. If it is offline, start it up again.
  • Check any network problems between the servers.
  • Update your Connection settings in order to try a manual reconnect.
